Tips For The Care & Cleaning Of Your Koolaburra Boots

You’ve excitedly got your first pair of Australian-made Koolaburra pure Merino sheepskin boots and they look great. But how do you keep them looking fresh and clean for years to come? Before you take a step outside, follow these simple guidelines in the care and cleaning of your Koolaburra boots to always keep them their best.

Protect the sheepskin from the elements where rain, snow, pollution, and dirt can all diminish the overall appearance of your footwear. We always recommend that you use genuine Koolaburra products on your Koolaburra boots. Take a little extra care when you first get your boots to spray them with a Water & Stain Repellent, specifically made for sheepskin. By placing a protective barrier on the surface of the boot, the repellent keeps dirt and oil from permeating and making cleaning easier in the future.

For pure luxury, treat your feet to an extra pair of insoles. By swapping them out every few weeks, you’ll extend the life of the boot’s interior while cradling your feet in the softest wool. The removable insoles are also fully washable. Easily freshen them by laundering the insoles in a Sheepskin Shampoo with Lanolin.

Over time and with normal wear, your boots may become soiled. A stop by a shoe repair shop qualified to clean sheepskin footwear is the best way to keep them looking great. However, you can clean them yourself with some basic tools. An extra soft bristled nylon brush is perfect for gently removing loose dirt and smudges on the surface of the sheepskin. The key is never to scrub, as that may harm the natural fibers; instead very gently brush the dirt off the surface.

If your boots require more than just surface cleaning, you can use Sheepskin Shampoo with Lanolin to gently hand-wash them, never machine wash. Following the bottle instructions, first evenly dampen the entire boot. Apply the cleaner and water to a soft, damp cloth, rubbing the cleaner into lather on the cloth before applying it to the sheepskin. With an even gentle motion, clean the surface of the entire boot. Rinse the boot using another clean wet cloth. Spot cleaning, or applying the shampoo directly to the boot is not recommended, and the insoles should be washed separately.

Never put your sheepskin boots in a clothes dryer. Instead, allo

w them to dry slowly and naturally in a ventilated area inside and out of direct sunlight. To help keep the shape of your boots while they dry, stuff the interior with paper towels. Sheepskin is a natural material, and you may find some temporary stiffening and dye loss after cleaning. Once dry, you can refresh the nap of the sheepskin by gently buffing the surface with your soft bristled brush. As a final step, apply Koolaburra Water and Stain Repellent to keep them protected until your next routine cleaning.

With good care and maintenance of your Australian-crafted, Merino sheepskin Koolaburra boots, they’ll last for years to come, and you’ll always look great in them!
