Are your rear drum brakes making a lot of noise? If you are mechanically inclined and have the service manual for your car, you can do the repair job yourself and save money. Rear drum brakes need a few special tools to remove and replace. These tools are a release spring tool, a hold down spring tool, brake adjusting tool, pliers, and a lug wrench. You also need a socket set, a wrench set, a jack, and two jack stands. Find something for your lug nuts and other parts. When you have all of your tools you are ready to start your task.

First loosen lug nuts on both sides and then jack the car up and take off the lug nuts on both sides. Remove both wheels. This will bring you to your rear brake drums. Remove both drums. This will reveal your brake shoes and springs. Take a good look at how they are put together. Next check to see if your wheel cylinders are leaking any brake fluid. If there are no leaks you are ready to take apart the brakes.

Next remove the emergency brake cable retainer. Now remove the release spring at the top of backing plate; there should be two springs. Then remove the hold down springs. You will have two springs and retainers, one in the center of each brake shoe. Now that this is done you can take off both brake shoes at the same time. Then take the star adjustment screw from between the brake shoes. Repeat these steps on the other side. Take all four shoes and both drums to the parts store. Have drums checked and see if drums can be turned; if not replace them.

Now that you have done all that and gotten new parts, you can start to replace them. First you have to clean all your parts, springs, and retainers, and the backing plate. Before you start replacing parts lube the backing plate where brake shoes ride against the backing plate. These places should be shiny. Next put the emergency brake lever on these secondary shoe. This is the shoe that has the most lining on it replace retainer clip. Next put secondary shoe on the backing plate using the pin and the retainer. Now replace the primary shoe on using the same steps. Next step is to replace the star adjustment screws at the bottom between the brake shoes. First put the star screw in the bottom spring both shoes now using pliers. Put the spring in now putting return springs on at the top.

Now is the time to check to see if your backing plate has an adjusting hole, if not there should be a knock up slot. Knock the slot out with a hammer and chisel. Now replace the drum and adjust brakes with a screwdriver or brake adjustment tool until shoes rub the drum. Be sure the drum rolls free. Repeat these steps on other side. Next put both wheels on and all lug nuts. Snug all lug nuts, let car down and tighten all lug nuts. Next put wheel covers on. Check brake pedal and see if pedal is full. If not, readjust back brakes. This should finish your rear drum brake replacement.

16 Steps To Handling Luggage

Packing luggage is a lost art. Here are 16 steps to get your belongings safely on their way.

When choosing clothes to pack, opt for pieces that coordinate well together. Choose one neutral color, such as black, blue or tan and choose pieces with that color. Change a look with accessories such as scarves, belts or jewelry that take up little space in your luggage.

1. Always place shirts on the bottom (the most wrinkle-prone ones first). Stack them, and then fold the sleeves in. Follow by folding the stack of shirts in half, starting from the bottom.

2. Next place any dresses on top of the shirts. The hem of the dresses should hang over the sides of the suitcase. Consider using a garment bag for easily damaged pieces.

3. Next stack skirts and pants on top of the dresses (again, the most wrinkle-prone pieces should go in first. Fold the stack in half lengthwise. Then fold the length in half.

4. Fold the hems of the dresses over the stack of pants and skirts.

5. Stuff socks, underwear and/or ties into shoes or in the side pockets.

6. Pack shoes so that the toe of one shoe lines up with the heel of the other.

7. Put shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes in separate plastic bags.

8. Add empty bags to your luggage to carry dirty laundry and any souvenirs you purchase on your trip.

9. Pack sample sizes of toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant and shampoo into plastic bags to place in your carry-on luggage. All medications should be clearly marked and packed in its original packaging.

10. Remove all previous tags and mark each piece of luggage clearly with your name, address and telephone number. Place the same information inside each piece of luggage.

11. Keep items with sharp edges, such as books, away from the sides of soft luggage. Avoid overpacking, which can strain luggage clasps and zippers. Keep in mind that many airlines assess additional fees for each piece of luggage. Repair any luggage with faulty hinges or rips before taking them on your trip.

12. Carry all valuables and travel documents with you. Do not put them in your luggage.

13. If you are traveling with young children, be sure to include extra food, beverages, diapers, spare clothing and toys in case of a delay. Keep the noisiest toys at home
1000
to avoid disturbing other passengers. Advise the airline crew that you may need help transporting your child.

14. Put a distinctive tag on each piece of luggage so you can easily identify it at the baggage claim.

15. Carefully watch your luggage at check-in if possible to make sure it is properly tagged.

16. Likewise, watch the baggage carousel carefully when your flight arrives to make sure your luggage does not get into the wrong hands.

These are 16 easy steps to dealing with your luggage. It is very important to follow current regulations. Check with the airline or your travel agency for current information and fees.

It can be said best by saying direct sales is a “numbers” game. Anyone in direct sales, especially commission sales, knows the more sales you make, the more money you make. This discussion will evolve around the real estate profession. However, the technique using the power of the business card may be applied to any direct sales industry.

In order to sell a product or service, the customer must be aware that you have a product or service to sell. There is an old adage, “You cannot sell a secret”, and it holds true in almost any industry.

New sales people may find selling a product or service even more challenging. They have not built a reputation and usually do not have the marketing dollars to spend on marketing and advertising. It also becomes very costly to market or advertise in publications, magazines, or newspaper ads.

The following story will amaze you. Twenty years ago when I first began my real estate career, I received tickets to the Super Bowl game. When I arrived at the game I sold my $75 ticket for $1000. I could not resist! I did not want to return home so I went out to the trunk of my car and pulled out a box of 1000 business cards. I returned to the long lines and started passing my cards out. In a few hours I passed the entire box of cards out to fans. Over the next 10 months, I quadrupled my sales and made over 6 figures, just from those 1000 cards.

It then dawned on me; the more people that know what you do for a living, the better your chances are of people requesting your services. I added this to my goal setting list, whereby I decided to pass out 1000 business cards every quarter.

Now let’s analyze the numbers for a minute. 1000 business cards will cost you around $100. If your goal was to pass out 1000 cards every 3 months, that is only 10 cards per day. It is said your ROI (Return on Investment) should be 7%. Let’s be a little more conservative and say our ROI is 1%. This would turn 10 new customers into clients every 3 months or 3 new clients per month. You could go as far to say this would generate 40 new clients a year. Wow!

Pass your business cards out to everyone, and I mean everyone. Your waiter when you go out for dinner, the Dry Cleaners, the shoe repair person, the teenage working behind the Taco Bell counter (Hint: His parents might be in need of your services), and the cashier at the grocery store.

The cost of business cards is lower than any other marketing or advertising cost and should be taken advantage of. This is the fastest and most cost effective way to generate leads and referral business. Add this to your written goals and watch your sales skyrocket.

Exclusive representation to buyers and sellers is a complex venture. Real Estate Homes, LLC philosophy has accomplished this with great success.

Sometimes it’s the simplest things in life that give us the greatest pleasure — like a properly functioning shoe stretcher. At some point or other, we have all bought a pair of shoes that were beautiful to look at but just didn’t fit right. In these situations, it can be heartbreaking to simply return your beautiful shoes to the store. That’s when a simple item such as a shoe stretcher can give you so much joy.

Shoe stretchers are a decidedly low-tech and low-cost solution to one of the most common human problems: sore feet from walking in shoes that do not fit correctly. Stretchers can expand the size of pretty much any shoe or boot available, enabling you to wear those expensive and beautiful shoes that never quite fit the way you hoped they would. Stretchers also save us a lot of money by preventing us from throwing out perfectly good shoes that are only a little too tight.

Although you can always take a tight pair of shoes to a shoe repair shop to be professionally stretched, for most people it makes much more economic sense to simply buy your own inexpensive shoe stretcher that you can use time and time again.

There are two basic types of shoes stretchers: the plastic type and the wooden type. Although the plastic shoe stretchers are much cheaper, they do not absorb moisture the way that the wooden stretchers, usually made of cedar, can. In addition, wooden shoe stretchers normally last longer and function much better than their plastic counterparts.

Another advantage of buying your own shoe stretcher is to stretch out old shoes that you haven’t worn in a while. It is a little-known fact that shoes that have not been worn for months or even years will tend to shrink, making them painful to walk in if you should decide to try using them again.

Expensive dress shoes, particularly, have a habit of shrinking when not used for several months. But having your own shoe stretcher can allow you to wear these expensive shoes again, and if it should be six months until you wear them the next time, that’s no problem; just put them in the stretcher again for a day or two and you’ll be ready to go.

Shoe stretchers can also be used to hold your shoes steady when you are polishing them. This is important because if your shoes move around or are not kept “flush” while polishing them, you can get creases on the surface, ruining an otherwise beautiful pair of expensive dress shoes.

In general, a shoe stretcher can be used to stretch out pretty much any type of shoe material. The only exception to this rule is that vinyl shoes, such as some women’s high heels, will not normally stretch adequately by using a traditional shoe stretcher. This is not a limitation of the stretchers themselves, but rather, an inherent property of the material.

Otherwise, a quality wooden shoe stretcher should last you a lifetime, and can save you a great deal of trouble — and blisters — from breaking in new shoes.

Craig Thornburrow is an acknowledged expert in his field. You can get more free advice on a shoe stretcher and two way shoe stretchers at http://www.shoestretcher.net

In the November 2005 issue of Inc. magazine, Norm Brodsky wrote: “Your company’s name plays little, if any, role in determining your success.”

I agree completely that a company with a bad or mediocre name can reach success. However, here are 10 reasons why coming up with a snappy, interesting and memorable name is worth the business owner’s or organization’s time and energy.

1. When you call or speak with strangers and mention the name of your company, and the name in and of itself provokes delighted recognition, this can get the business relationship off on a positive footing.

2. A distinctive name can attract the kind of customers you want and keep away those you don’t want. For instance, if you can’t stand dealing with those who have no sense of humor, a punny name repels such folks. Au contraire, if you want people to know you’re serious and weighty, a shrewdly chosen traditional name can impress people accordingly.

3. Cool company names can in and of themselves generate media coverage, either because there’s something newsworthy in the name or because many journalists are more attracted to highlight companies with fun names than boring ones. Case in point: Rent-a-Wreck.

4. A distinctive name increases repeat business because it helps previous customers remember it when looking at a list of possibles in the Yellow Pages or elsewhere. For instance, House Husband would jump out of a list of competitors like A-1 Handyman, Acme Home Repair, etc.

5. A wisely chosen name is simple to spell and leads to one and only one possible URL. This enables more people who have heard about a company to find it online.

6. A well-chosen name can embody the #1 benefit you offer customers and make it possible to get across an appealing marketing message in less space.

7. A hastily chosen name can lead to legal troubles or bad PR, both adding needless expenses and needlessly alienating customers. Just ask my friend Andy, who had to change his business name not once but twice in three months because he hadn’t done his homework on the name. And just ask the shoe company in the UK that named some new sneakers “Zyklon,” which was the name of the gas the Nazis used to kill millions during World War Two.

8
1000
. If customers need to find you in the Yellow Pages, a name that’s near the beginning of the alphabet makes it easier for them and may make it less crucial to have a huge, expensive display ad.

9. A boring name contains no sparks for getting started on persuasive descriptions of your company’s products or services, while a creative name makes it easy to riff off it with inspired marketing copy.

10. The name affects how people who work for the business feel about it. A company name they love to say and that customers respond to positively makes for a more pleasant working environment than does a name that is confusing, hard to pronounce or has some negative connotations.

Auto Locksmith Service

HOW CAN AN AUTOLOCKSMITH HELP YOU? Waking up on a Monday morning to discover your car has been covered in snow can be extremely frustrating. Now running late for work, it would be even more frustrating to accidentally lock your keys in the car while trying to defrost the windows.

During the winter months hundreds of motorists lock their keys in their car with the engine still running! A London auto locksmith can not only open your vehicle, but also repair snapped keys, remove broken keys from locks, replace damaged vehicle locks; and actually provide replacement car keys when you have lost them entirely!

If you are unfortunate enough to lock your keys in your car it will be typical that it happens when you are already running late for an important appointment. A good auto locksmith could be with you in as little as 30 minutes or less and have you back on the road five short minutes after.

You may have heard stories about how “when you dad was a lad” you could open a car using a coat hanger and a shoe lace! You may have even seen some of the spoof videos on You Tube claiming to open a locked car with half a tennis ball. With the sophistication of the locks used on today’s vehicles these methods would not help you open a car if you had all day to spend trying.

Over the last decade vehicle manufacturers have been constantly improving security by producing complex “high security locks” and immobiliser systems.
This is great in terms of vehicle security but not so great for the motorist that loses all of their keys or locks them in the boot with the shopping.

A good auto locksmith will have years of experience with all vehicle locks and be able to gain entry into even the most secure vehicle within 30 minutes. Working from a mobile unit an auto locksmith will attend your vehicle and be able to reproduce keys on site. The auto locksmiths van will be equipped with all the key blanks and key cutting machinery to cut keys for most common makes of vehicle while you wait.

Once a new key has been cut it will need to be matched to the car to deactivate the immobiliser system. Did you know all vehicles produced after 1996 are fitted with factory immobilisers as EU law? Specialist diagnostic tools and software are required to program transponder keys to the cars immobiliser.
Auto locksmiths use these tools
1000
the same way a main dealer would to program keys and in some cases can do more than the main dealers can with their own vehicles.

Your vehicle main dealer will order a replacement key by a unique code they hold on system for your car. Unfortunately many dealers do not have access to key cutting machinery on site and often send away for keys to be cut at their main site overseas. Peugeot keys for example have to be cut in France and then posted to the UK. This process can take as long as two whole weeks.

When the key finally arrives the dealer will need your car to be at their garage for them to code in the key. If you do not have free recovery from a roadside service this could cost you up to £200 in recovery fees.

An auto locksmith in London can produce new keys on site at your car in as little as 30 minutes at half the price of using a main dealer.

You can find an auto locksmith in your area by searching the internet. Many locksmith shops will know an established and reputable auto locksmith in the area, and will be happy to pass on their details.

Anybody who has used Google Maps lately may have noticed from a few to hundreds of red dots on the maps in addition to the usual place markers. If you want to get a first hand glimpse of this go to Google and click on the Maps tab. Once you are in Google Maps, search “locksmith NYC”. You will see the entire island of New York City buried in red dots. Each of these dots represents the location of a locksmith. There must be one on every corner and few in between.

The locksmith dots in New York City is an extreme example. However, you will be seeing these annoying little red circles showing up in almost all of your searches in Google maps. Some people are asking what do these red dots mean and what are their significance.

The red dots are a Google “improvement” to Google Maps. And the idea actually makes sense. Prior to the red dots Google only listed the top ten search results. If you were searching for a shoe repair in New York City, Google would return the top ten search results that Google determined to be the most relevant to your search phrase. Of the top ten search results the closest one might be a couple of miles away across town. So you go out and get in a cab and are whisked away to the shoe repair shop. However, what you may not have known was that there was a shoe repair a block and a half away in walking distance in the other direction.

So Google tried to remedy this by introducing the red dots to show other locations. The place markers are still there to show what Google believes to be the top ten listings most relevant to your search. But the red dots are also there to show other business that may be relevant to your search but just not relevant enough to be included in the top ten listings.

This is a real benefit to Google map users in many searches in which they just might want to find the closest shoe repair shop. However, business owners should look at this development a little more closely.

For some people these days Google Maps has replaced the Yellow pages. They do all of their comparative shopping online and Google is the search engine of choice. Potential customers are searching everything on Google. Millions of them. If they want to find a pet groomer there are going to go to Google web or maps and enter “pet groomer + their city”. In either search the top ten pet groomers will appear. The maps will display the red dots as well. The important point, dots or not, in most searches the potential customer is really only going to pay attention to the top ten search results. This is where a business should place in the search order if they want to take advantage of the Internet to grow their business and profits.

The good news is that just like websites, map listings can be optimized so that they appear in the top ten search results. Anybody can do it if they know how. Or they can hire a Map SEO which shouldn’t be confused with a web SEO.

Is your Google Map Listing in the top ten search results?
It could be. We can help.

Women have a problem with their new shoes that are a bit too tight every now and then. If your shoes feel a little tight, fret not, because there are lots of great methods to stretch your shoes. Whether you want to do it yourself or seek professional help, there is always a solution you will be comfortable with. Here are some great tips on how to stretch your shoes.

1. Put on a very thick pair of socks, spray the inside of the shoe with water till its half damp and then rub some alcohol solution. After that, wear the shoes for 20 minutes.

2. If your shoes are waterproof or made of a natural fabric, try stuffing the insides tightly with wet newspaper or damp towel. When the newspaper or towel dries up, it expands and will help to stretch the shoe a bit. Do not try this method if your shoes are made of leather.

3. This is another shoes good tip for women. Put your shoes out in the sun for about 20 minutes to soften their material. After that, put on very thick socks and walk around in the shoes for at least 20 minutes. Do some exaggerate movement like walk fast, stretching your feet and toes. These will help to loosen the front part a bit.

4. Alternatively, you can also blow a hairdryer on your shoes for about 20-30 seconds until they are warmed up (good method if there is no sunlight), this will also help to soften the material and cause it to expand a little. After that, put on a thick pair of socks, walk and stretch in them for 20 minutes.

5. If your women’s shoes are made of leather, suede, nubuck or reptile skins, you can buy a shoe stretcher spray that helps to enlarge the shoes. This can be bought at shoe repair stores or from online. The chemicals in the spray help to penetrate shoe leather quickly and relaxes the leather fibers for easy stretching. The leather is softened and it gives even better stretching results when used with a shoe stretcher. Spray the area of your shoe to be stretched, insert the shoe stretcher, bring your shoe in the new shape and let it dry.

6. Vaseline can also work wonders for stretching your shoes. Wear a pair of thick socks, rub some Vaseline on the area you want to stretch and wear the shoes round the house for about 20 minutes. This method will not cause the material to dry out and is less likely to tear the material.

7. If you want to soften your women’s leather shoes, cut some potatoes and stuff them into the area that you want it stretched or softened. Leave the potato overnight and they will give even better results. You can also use banana peels instead of potatoes, they work just fine.

8. Go to a shoe repair shop and ask them to help you stretch your shoes with a shoe stretcher. Or you can also buy a wooden shoe stretcher and stretch your shoes on your own.

9. For the pair of women shoes that need stretching, fill some small air-tight bags with water up to three quarter level (zip lock bags are the best). Wrap the shoes in a tea towel and leave them in the freezer for a few hours, as the water freezes it expands and stretches the shoes. Do not to fill the bags to full level of water or it might burst and split the shoe when it freeze. Don’t try this with leather shoes as well, they will be damaged.

The Nocona Boot Company came into existence in 1925 by the proud daughter, Enid Justin, who wanted to continue on in her father’s business of making the best western boots. Her father, Daddy Joe Justin, was an Indiana boy who came to Texas in the late 1800’s looking for a new start. His travels brought him to Spanish Fort, a little town not far from the Oklahoma border. Spanish Fort was smack dab in the middle of the Chisholm Trail, the most heavily used cattle drive trail in the area. Shoe repair was in demand.

Daddy Joe started his shoe repair business with less than half a dollar. Soon after he hung out his slate announcing his shoe repair service; it wasn’t long before he had the money to buy more leather to make more boots. The cowboys knew by then he was the boot maker in town and the boots soon sold and with the money he bought more leather to make more boots and the rest is history. Little did he know at this time that his daughter would be the founder of the Nocona Boot Company.

It became well known that Daddy Joe didn’t make just any old boot. Buy the time he was getting along in business everyone knew or heard that he was the premium boot maker in town who focused on perfection. He became well known for not just putting boots up on the rack for sale but for making custom size boots to fit the cowboy foot perfectly. That is how daddy Joe began the tradition of handcrafted boots. After some time Daddy Joe moved his family and business to Nocona, Texas and it was there the Nocona Boot Company was founded.
